snowboard factory .........


A snowboard factory gets 17 orders from sports stores. Each order is for 68 snowboards. How many snowboards are ordered in all

  1. Hi Nico. I like the story problem. These are challenging numbers to work with, but let's see:

    10 X 68 goes first. (680)
    then, I will split up 68 into 60 + 8
    and do 7 X 60 (420) and 7 X 8 (56)
    so...
    680 + 420 = 1100
    1100 + 56 = 1156.

    I think the total number of snowboards ordered is 1156.
    How's that?

  2. Good problem Nico!

    To figure this problem out, I need to multiply 17 x 68.

    First I will break up 68 into 60 and 8. Then I will break up 17 into 10 and 7 to be multiplied by 60 and 8.

    7 x 8 = 56
    7 x 60 = 420
    10 x 8 = 80
    10 x 60 = 600

    So 56 + 80 = 136
    420 + 600 = 1020

    And 1020 + 136 = 1156 snowboards.
